TechWorks Marine has developed the CoastEye MiniBuoy, a lightweight buoy which can be easily deployed by two people. It has been designed for real-time monitoring in coastal and freshwater environments, in particular water quality monitoring.
TechWorks Marine supplied the EPA with a MiniBuoy in 2019, and it was used as a case study to monitor conditions in Cork Harbour in late 2019. The details of the case study are provided in the white paper linked here.

TechWorks Marine has been awarded a contract through the ESA InCubed program to develop an innovative coastal monitoring solution – CoastEO Coastal Ocean Assessment using Earth Observation. The project kicked off in January 2020 with a duration of 18 months.

TechWorks Marine and DCU Water Institute kick off Disruptive Technologies project “Advanced Decision Support System for Coastal Areas”
TechWorks Marine and the DCU Water Institute announce their collaboration on a 3 year project following the joint award of €1.1M from Project 2040’s Disruptive Technologies Innovation Fund. The project, Advanced Environmental Decision Support System for Coastal Areas, will see the commercialisation of the DCU Water Institute’s optical sensor technology, and integration with the advanced data analytics capabilities of TechWorks Marine.(read more)

Charlotte O'Kelly and Prof. Frederic Dias from UCD are among 4 winners of The European Research Council (ERC) competition for its top-up funding, ’Proof of Concept’. Shallow waters are not easy to access for the large vessels normally used in seabed surveys, leaving a gap in marine charts in the most used and most challenging areas for navigation. Satellite data can be used to fill this gap, as more of the light reflected from the seafloor in deep waters is scattered, so shallower areas appear lighter in satellite images.
A study to improve observations of seafloor depth from satellites was carried out by TechWorks, the National Centre for Geocomputation at Maynooth University and the Geological Survey of Ireland. The study was funded by Science Foundation Ireland under their Industry Fellowship program and the results have been published online in Hydro International.(read more)
During this two year project, TechWorks Marine will develop a buoy platform to validate water quality measurements from ESA satellites in our coastal waters. Satellites are potentially a very useful tool to monitor coastal water quality, but in situ measurements to validate the satellite data are necessary to ensure their accuracy.(read more)
